Who we are

Honoria (“we”, “us”) is a website operated by Symantix Ltd (Company No. 05672247), registered in England and Wales. We are the data controller for personal data processed through this website. Information about honours recipients

Honoria is an independent reference that publishes information about recipients of UK honours. Most of this information is not collected from the individuals themselves but compiled from public records. The categories include a recipient’s name, the honour or award and its date, the citation or reason, their role or organisation, a town/county where recorded, and (where available) a public photograph and biographical summary.

Where it comes from. Our sources are: The London Gazette (the official public record, Crown copyright under the Open Government Licence); gov.uk / Cabinet Office honours lists (Open Government Licence); Wikidata (released under CC0); and Wikimedia / Wikipedia (text under CC BY-SA, images under their individual licences).

Lawful basis. Where this includes personal data about living individuals, our lawful basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) - maintaining an accurate, searchable public-interest record of published honours, with particular care to surface community awardees whose recognition is otherwise under-reported. We have weighed this against recipients’ rights and reasonable expectations and offer the controls below as safeguards. (Information about deceased people is outside data protection law.)

Special category data. Some citations may reveal information such as health, religion or belief, political opinion, or other sensitive matters. Where they do, we treat that as special category data and only process it where a lawful condition applies (for example, where the information has manifestly been made public, or for journalism in the public interest). If you believe a sensitive detail about you should not be shown, please tell us and we will review it.

How we tell you. Because this data comes from public records rather than from you, and the dataset covers many thousands of people, contacting each person individually would involve disproportionate effort (UK GDPR Article 14(5)(b)). This notice, which is linked from every page, is how we provide that information. To query, correct, remove or object to an entry, use Your data - we respond within one month, free of charge.

We use essential cookies needed to run the site (for example, to remember your cookie choice). We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell your data to advertisers.

Who we share data with

We use trusted third-party processors to run the service, including Stripe (payments), our hosting/infrastructure provider, Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics), and Clicky (web analytics). These providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, appropriate safeguards (such as UK adequacy regulations or Standard Contractual Clauses) apply. We do not sell your personal data.

Retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above or as required by law (for example, transaction records for accounting and tax).

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. The easiest way to exercise any of these is our Your data page, or email contact@honoria.co.uk. We aim to respond within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we handle a request, see our complaints procedure. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
