The Royal Red Cross (RRC) is a military decoration awarded in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth for exceptional services in military nursing. It was created in 1883, and the first two awards were to Florence Nightingale and Jane Cecilia Deeble. Deeble had served in Zulu Kingdom and the Colony of Natal during the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879, and she had noted that the work of the nurses was not recognised officially.

About this honour
The Associate of the Royal Red Cross recognises devotion and competency in military nursing. It was established in 1883 by Queen Victoria, and is conferred by the British Crown.
It is awarded to military nursing personnel, recognising impact at high-level military nursing service level, in areas such as military nursing and medical leadership.
Candidates are put forward through recommended by military medical chain of command, assessed by the military nursing review board and approved by the Sovereign. Appointments are announced in the Royal honours lists. Recipients are invested at a royal investiture ceremony.
Recipients may use the post-nominal letters ARRC. Recipients wear the silver cross badge. In the order of precedence it sits below member (RRC).
It signifies exceptional nursing service, representing compassion, duty and service.
