King's Ambulance Service Medal (KAM)

The King's Ambulance Service Medal (KAM) recognises long service or acts of outstanding merit in ambulance service. It was established in 2011 by Queen Elizabeth II, and is conferred by the British Crown.

It is awarded to ambulance service personnel, recognising impact at national or regional level, in areas such as emergency care, long service and exceptional merit.

Candidates are put forward through service nomination, assessed by the ambulance service honours board and approved by the Sovereign. Appointments are announced in the Honours lists. Recipients are invested at a royal ceremony.

Recipients may use the post-nominal letters KAM. Recipients wear the medal and ribbon. In the order of precedence it sits below higher national medals.

It signifies distinguished ambulance service, representing duty, service and courage.
