The Royal Victorian Order is a dynastic order of knighthood established in 1896 by Queen Victoria. It recognises distinguished personal service to the monarch, members of the royal family, or to any viceroy or senior representative of the monarch. The present monarch, King Charles III, is the sovereign of the order. The order's motto is Victoria. The order's official day is 20 June. The order's chapel is the Savoy Chapel in London.

About this honour

The Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) recognises distinguished personal service. It was established in 1896 by Queen Victoria, and is conferred by the Sovereign.

It is awarded to personal service personnel, recognising impact at personal service to the Crown level, in areas such as personal service, loyalty and dedication.

Candidates are put forward through royal household recommendation, assessed by the royal honours committee and approved by the Sovereign. Appointments are announced in the Royal announcements. Recipients are invested at a royal ceremony.

Recipients may use the post-nominal letters CVO. Recipients wear the badge, star, ribbon. In the order of precedence it sits above lieutenant (LVO) and below knight/Dame Commander (KCVO/DCVO).

It signifies distinguished personal service, representing loyalty, service and duty.
